Project Overview: In this project, our aim was to enhance user engagement within the MyStreaks app by introducing a gamification system. We sought to reward users for maintaining their streaks and engaging in desired tasks, all while making these achievements easily shareable for social proof.
Research: In our research phase, we delved into gamification studies, particularly those related to successful self-improvement apps like Duolingo, known for leveraging badges to encourage sharing and retention. These studies revealed that gamification could lead to a significant 48% increase in user retention and improve goal adherence.
Ideation:
In the ideation and design phase, we brainstormed creative solutions to bring gamification elements into MyStreaks. Our goal was to seamlessly integrate ranks, milestones, and stickers into the user experience. To maintain a consistent look and feel, we adhered to the MyStreaks app's existing visual identity and user interface guidelines
Challenges:
Throughout the project, we faced challenges related to the introduction of gamification features. Overcoming initial resistance from some stakeholders was a hurdle, but by showcasing the potential benefits and maintaining a user-centric approach, we successfully navigated these challenges.
Results:
As a result of implementing these gamification features, we observed a remarkable boost in user engagement and retention rates. Metrics demonstrated a substantial increase in user activity, proving the efficacy of our solution.
Key Takeaways:
Reflecting on this project, we've gained valuable insights into the power of gamification to drive user engagement. These lessons have since influenced our approach to UX/UI design, particularly when integrating gamification elements into apps
