Onboarding - MyStreaks

PROJECT DETAILS

Project Overview: MyStreaks embarked on a mission to streamline user onboarding, making it effortless for users to select their initial streak and seamlessly set up their accounts.

‍

Users were eager to initiate a streak but often felt overwhelmed by the multitude of options. This "paradox of choice" led to incomplete account setups, low retention rates, and suboptimal user experience.

‍

To address this issue, we divided users into two groups: those who successfully completed onboarding and those who didn't. We organized feedback meetings and surveys, encouraging user participation. We also closely observed selected users to gain insights into their in-app experiences.

‍

Ideation and Design

In the project's early stages, we explored three potential onboarding iterations, each offering distinct user flows. Subsequent testing and cross-referencing with our research data culminated in the development of a finalized design, ready for user testing.

‍

Final Design

The ultimate design focused on creating a more concise, targeted streak creation process. It featured data on the most popular streaks, simplifying user adoption with a single tap. Given users' tendency to forget to mark their streaks, we incorporated a reminder page, allowing users to grant notification access for timely streak reminders. Afterward, users could personalize their experience with a unique username and profile picture before entering the app.

‍

Challenges

The project encountered challenges in determining the most efficient onboarding steps to prevent user fatigue. Additionally, sifting through extensive app data to select the featured streaks proved to be a daunting task.

‍

Results

Following the implementation of the redesigned onboarding process, MyStreaks experienced a significant boost in 28-day retention rates, securing a place in the 98th percentile among all apps in the app store. The revamped onboarding process effectively eliminated user drop-offs and received positive feedback, with users expressing a strong preference for the "adopt" feature. As a result, we received numerous requests to incorporate this feature into other parts of the app
